The 356C models all had a larger, more flexible, steering coupler. It was designed to break apart in the case of an accident, and had no fiber reinforcement like the earlier disc type coupler. It was also more compliant and provided less input from the steering wheel. For this new coupler Porsche shortened the steering shaft accordingly (about 20mm). 

Under normal usage it is very common for the 356C couplers to become brittle and crack or break completely (see photo). This can cause a loss of control with obvious results.

Since the 356C steering shaft is 20mm shorter than the 356B shaft, a simple change-out of the stock coupler is not possible. For years WR has been using our own conversion adapter for the 356C, to easily convert to the early disc coupler. This provides not only a less expensive solution (original 356C couplers are super expensive), but also provides improved steering feel and feedback.

We use a shorter version of the same spacer the factory used with the extended steering column, and our WR 356C Steering Coupler Conversion Kit comes with an oem Febi-Bilstein coupler, fine-thread metric fasteners, and Nylock nuts to insure easy and permanent installation.
