Porsche 356 4"x8" Paint Sample
Product Description
This is a complete listing of the most common factory colors for the 356. These are from our archive of color matches over the last 30 years and can be used as a reference for restoration of your 356. We offer 4x8" spray-out sample cards for any of the colors listed below for a fee of $35 (incl. free First Class postage) per color. The sample card can be used by your painter to match the factory color. Our samples are not based on formulas, it is imperative to have your painter match his paint to the card itself to obtain an accurate match.
We also have correct colors for repainting knobs, steering wheels, turn signal housings, engine sheetmetal, etc. (Click Engine and Interior Tab).
Colors listed as" NA" are not yet available.
Colors listed as "no pic" are not displayed but are available.
Most pre 1954 colors were lacquer (Nitrolack). After 1954 synthetic enamel
(Kunstharzlack) became the standard and lacquer was available at special request.
NOTE:We have only recorded one car later than 1956 that was lacquer.
The cars built by Glaeser were painted in the standard Reutter colors but were often quite different. It seems that Glaser had its own version of the factory colors. We have only Azure Blue 522 in the Glaeser color.

Silver #608 was always available from Porsche, although it wasn't always listed
on the color charts. Also, the factory has always had a "paint to sample" option
so, in theory, any color was available at an extra charge. It was also possible to
special order older colors that had been discontinued.

Great Paint Reference

I was delighted to receive this paint card. According to Porsche and the stamped paint code on my 356, it originally came from the factory in Signal Red. The car is now white but there are small areas you can see the original color. This reference will help immensely in obtaining the correct factory color finish for the car. I really like the size of the card as you can really get a sense of the color in different lighting conditions.

PAINT SAMPLES ARE TERRIFIC

I have all of the samples Wilhoit has available for now. It is a great manner in which to help customers figure out what color they may want to use when painting their 356. These samples have been used at our shop for many years. I keep them in a ring binder so as not to take up much space.

paint chips

The chips have been more helpful in deciding what color not to use. The stone grey, a color I loved on line, is just too green in some light. The marine blue darker than expected.
Delivery was prompt, safely packaged.
Suggestion, perhaps sample on shaped object to better ascertain variances'.

Easy & Correct Color Matching

Fast and easy - order and delivery.
Having the Reutter 608 color standard will allow everyone in the finish department to achieve precisely the correct look for our Beck Speedster.
Also, seeing the 608 color in natural light at various times of day next to our leather color samples allowed us to zero in on the interior color selection.

The sample is flawlessly painted and is being used to analyzed to produce paint at paint body supply store.

Vintage Speedster recommended contacting Wilhoit Restoration for paint samples when trying to make a decision on an exterior paint color for my Vintage Speedster build and I'm glad that I did. Seeing the actual paint on a sample card and being able to see it in various light conditions made all the difference on my final decision. Fast turn around and great customer service.
