WR Big Valve Cylinder Heads for the 356/912

Finally, an improved cast reproduction of the factory type 616 cylinder head. No more fixing cracks and modifying 50+ year old heat cycled original heads that will probably just crack again.  Developed and produced by Willhoit Auto Restoration, these new castings solve the 356/912 cylinder head problem with a replacement that looks and performs better than the original.

The WR Big Valve Heads are made for the WR1925S and WR2.2 and WR2.2S engine. They are made using a specially cast version of our WR Stock Cylinder Heads that use 42 intake and 36 exhaust valves. The chambers, intake/exhaust ports and the special WR Weber Intake Manifolds are all CNC ported to match our design that is the result of countless hours of experimentation and testing. The flow numbers have been drastically increased over the late 356/912 head as shown in the attached chart.  They are bored for our 91mm cylinders and the chambers match our 91mm CP pistons for the 1925cc and 2185cc engines. Chamber volume is 73cc. 


  • Cast just like the original heads but using a proprietary alloy and heat treat process that will not crack. The prototypes were extensively tested on the WR engine dyno and on the street. The flow through finning allows for cooling that is impossible with a CNC machined head. 
  • The smaller DR6EA plug is 12mm x ¾” reach and allows for much more material around the valves. It is a commonly used plug size and is easily available. Four new plugs are supplied with each set of heads. 
  • The stainless steel 8mm stem valves are 42mm intake and 36mm exhaust and are installed using a 5 angle valve job. The guides are silicon-bronze alloy for excellent heat transfer and long life. 
  • Special hardened lash caps provide a large pad for the stock rocker arms. A set is included with each pair of heads.
  • Special bead lock titanium retainers are matched to the double springs and are good for 7k RPM and lifts over .525 without coil bind.
  • The air injection bosses were retained to allow easy installation of a head temp sensor for EFI. 
  • The 73.0cc matched chambers have a 15-degree bevel cut to fit our 1925S and 2.2 engines.
  • Completely assembled and ready to install and run.
