Product Description

All of our oil filter canisters are restored as follows:

  1. Filter is completely disassembled and solvent cleaned.
  2. Fittings are prepped and cad plated.
  3. Canister and lid are burned at 400 degrees to completely remove paint and oil residue.
  4. Canister is ultrasonically cleaned to remove all residue.
  5. Canister and lid are prepped and painted in the correct colors. A very minimum of primer is used so that the natural texture (along with flaws) of the metal is preserved. Underside of cap and inside of canister are taped off so they don’t get painted.
  6. Filter is reassembled as original. Inside is coated with oil to prevent rust. Filter is installed.

Some filters originally included a filter element support and/or a spring under the lid. The new elements are larger than most of the originals and these parts are no longer necessary.

The Fram filter was used on all years. The earliest were orange with a black top (although, I have seen these on engines as late as 1964). These had a large decal on the side and a yellow/black “EINLASS” decal either over or under the inlet port. The decal on the top was the usual Fram triangle but had the number “F-3.” I have also seen this filter with a silver body and black top. Some of these filters had black oxide fittings rather than the usual cad.

The next Fram filter was silver with a black top. It used a yellow/black or orange/black “EINLASS” decal but no large side decal. The top decal had the numbers “F988.”

The last Fram filter was silver with a silver stop.  It used an orange/black “EINLASS” decal under the inlet port.

Fram filters can be identified by the plate that is attached under the canister where the outlet port is located. The only decals currently available are the orange/black EINLASS, the Fram triangle top decal with the F988, and the large side decal for the early filters. The best option is to mix and match the decals to get as close as possible to what you feel is correct for your car. We can supply Fram filters with orange canisters and silver tops if requested.
